California

Life events have conspired to take me birding in California this summer. Matt finished his second year at Santa Clara University then moved to Solana Beach for an eight week job at HP in Rancho Bernardo. (Now he's in London for a semester abroad.) Allie is now in her first year at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I've recorded 65 species in California since mid-June. Most of them are also found in Oregon. But a few are more specific to California. Among them are Northern Mockingbird, Hooded Oriole, Black Phoebe, and Black-necked Stilt.

After business meetings yesterday, I discovered the Palo Alto Baylands. I saw 24 species there. My favorite was this group of about 50 Black-necked Stilts.

Now that I've found this birding site, I will be back!
